Dr. lawrence clapp, pastor 

Lawrence has been in full-time ministry for over 40 years. The North Carolina native, son of a pastor answered the call to ministry while in grade school. He attended Gardner-Webb University. After undergrad he went to Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary where he got his masters and his Doctorate. Lawrence met his wife Jenny while he was a pastor in Asheville and she was doing summer missions. He moved to S. Elm in January of 1985. He served on the Board of Directors at the North Carolina Baptist State Convention and sat on the executive committee.

Lawrence has two daughters who are both married and is a grandpa to three grandchildren. He is a Christmas fanatic and known to many as Mr. Christmas. Lawrence loves playing golf, mowing the yard, watching Andy Griffith, football and Duke basketball.  

Rev. Jason Laswon, Student pastor

Jason grew up in Greensboro, but has lived all over North Carolina for the past ten years.  He is married to Lindsey Lawson and they have three crazy kids, Oliver, Amos and Salem.  Jason has been in youth ministry for the past 20 years.  His passion is discipling teenagers to walk with God, and training families to live out their faith together.  God has blessed him with the opportunity to serve on mission in 9 countries around the world.  

Jason enjoys hiking, disc golf, woodworking and leather working.  He has written a book titled “The Potter’s Hands” which is a year long devotional aimed at drawing people closer to God.  He also enjoys building forts in the woods with his kids.

bonnie joyce, office administrator 

Bonnie is an accomplished executive assistant offering over 20 years of experience. She serves our church as our office administrator and she is often the first voice you will hear when you call the church office. Bonnie plays a critical role on our ministry team interacting with members of the community on our behalf and making sure things run smoothly.

Bonnie and her husband Wayne have two children, Andrew and Amber. She loves spending time with her family and serving her community. Bonnie is an active member at her church.

alicia brown, LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR

Alicia attended Gardner-Webb University and earned a degree in psychology before going on to UNCG to get a Masters in School Counseling. She worked as a high school counselor for 13 years. She serves S. Elm as our counselor for our members and people in our community. In addition to serving on our ministry team she is a facilitator with the University of North Carolina’s Teamquest department, an outdoor experimental learning campus and she is founder and CEO of The Oaks Therapeutic Community, Inc. 

Alicia is married to Eric and they have two children. She enjoys anything outside with friends and family, traveling, Bible studies, roller coasters, bungee jumping and reading. Alicia loves helping people realize how valuable they are to God.
